You read a certain number of
books every week and wrote down the titles on a sheet. A certain number of
books equaled a star, and then those stars on your BOOK IT pin got you a
personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. One time in second grade it was raining, and
my Dad went into Pizza Hut to get my pizza while I stayed in the car, and they
didn't want to give it to him because he wasn't with a kid. I like to imagine my Dad trying to
hustle a personal pan pizza by exploiting a reading program for elementary school
children. Don't worry, they ended up giving it to him.
Now that I'm older I realize that
Pizza Hut was probably just trying to generate some sweet revenue, but I always
looked at the gold star as a huge honor. So, speaking of books, this was the best book I read last year:
What's your
favorite book?

Not sure about my favorite, but I recently finished EARTHLY POWERS by Anthony Burgess, and it was shockingly moving.
ReplyDeleteI was so into this program! I am also trying to incorporate more reading into my life since I have no time to do anything ever.
ReplyDeleteIt was actually my new year's resolution to get one book in per month, and I've only been able to keep up by downloading something to my tablet and reading it on my train ride home from school. It wasn't even a good book, but I really needed to finish something! I can't remember the last good book I read, I'll have to check Disgrace out.
I'm reading let the big world spin. Only a quarter of the way through it, but I'm really enjoying it. Btw, how's house of mirth going? :)
